Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage focuses on targeting the deeper layers of muscle andfascia(the connective tissue surrounding muscles). It is especially effectivefor addressing chronic pain, tension, and tightness in specific areas such asthe neck, shoulders, lower back, and legs.

At the start of the session, your therapist will typically use lighter pressure togently warm up and prepare the muscles. Then, deeper and more targetedtechniques will be applied using a combination of fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearmsto access areas of tension.

You may be asked to breathe deeply as the therapist works through tight orcontracted areas.

What You May Feel

At times, deep tissue work can cause temporary discomfort, especially when addressing adhesions or scar tissue. However, pain is not the goal—and excessive pressure may cause your body to tense, making the treatment less effective. You should always feel empowered to communicate with your therapist if the pressure becomes too intense. Your therapist can adjust

techniques or take additional time to release superficial tension first.

After Your Session

It’s normal to feel some soreness or stiffness for a day or so following yourmassage, similar to post-workout muscle fatigue. Be sure to drink plenty ofwater to help flush out metabolic waste and support recovery.

If any discomfort persists or you have concerns after your session, pleasereach out to your massage therapist directly.

At Limestone Therapeutic Massage, we focus on providing deep tissue workthat is both effective and respectful of your comfort, with the goal of achievinglong-lasting pain relief.

REASONS TO AVOID A DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

  1. If you have blood clots or are at risk of forming blood clots, it's essential that you consult your doctor before getting a deep tissue massage.

  2. Some people with osteoporosis should avoid the deeper pressure of this type of massage.

  3. If you have any condition, it's important to consult your primary care provider first to find out what type they recommend. For example, people with certain conditions, such as ankylosing spondylitis, may not be able to tolerate the pain of a deep tissue massage.
